1. Commodity
Phosphorized seamless copper tube.
2. Scope
This specification covers anneals and hard seamless copper tube in Level Wound Coil (LWC)
Refer to abbreviations here.
3. Quality
Fabrication of phosphorized seamless copper tube C12200 with the following quality:
3.1 General Quality
- The tube shall be homogeneous and free from cracks, die marks, and dents which are detrimental to practical use.
- The tube shall be practically round.
- Both inner and outer surface of the tube shall be clean and free from oxides, dirt, chips, and oil, which are harmful to practical use.
- The whole length of the tube shall be passed through an eddy current test in accordance with ASTM E-243 and all defects in the the tube shall be clearly marked with black ink, 20 inches minimum in length. The number of signals for any LWC or Supercoil (SC) shall not exceed the number specified in the following table.
Table 1 Maximum Number of Signals Per LWC or SC
Coil Size | OD | Max. No. of signals
SC | All Smooth and Groove Tube Full Coils | 12
SC | All Smooth and Groove Tube Half Coils | 6
LWC | All 1/4 ” and 3/16 ” OD Smooth Tube | 6
LWC | All other OD Sizes Smooth and Groove Tube | 4 |
3.2 Chemical Composition ASTM B-68, B-75, B-743
Chemical composition of the tube shall conform to Table 2
Table 2 Chemical Composition
Type of Copper | Designation Copper UNS Number | Chemical Composition
Copper Minimum | Phosphorous
Phosphorized, High residual Phosphorous | C 12200 | 99.90% | .015 – .040 % |
3.3 Mechanical Properties ASTM B-68, B-75, B-743
Mechanical properties of the tube shall conform to Table 3
Table 3 Mechanical Properties
3.4 Dimension and Tolerance
Dimension and Tolerance of the tube shall conform to attached Tables 4 and 5 from ASTM B-68, ASTM B-75, ASTM B-251, ASTM B-743
Table 4 Wall Thickness Tolerances
Note: Maximum Deviation at Any Point – The above tolerances are plus and minus; if tolerances all plus or all minus are desired, double the values given. When round tube is ordered by OD and ID dimensions, the maximum +/- deviation from the nominal wall thickness, at any point shall not exceed the values, given the table above, by more than 50%.
